with the Hot Rods Band. I know your are an oldies fan so I
wanted to let you know about a recording project involving Buddy
Holly's original bandmates at the original studio where Holly
recorded.
In September 2006 I had the opportunity to produce and participate
in a new recording at the historic Norman Petty Studio in
Clovis, New Mexico. The Petty studio is where Buddy Holly and
the Crickets recorded their early rock and roll hits in the late
1950's. The Petty Studio was closed just a few years after
Holly's tragic death in 1959 and has not been available for
recording in over 50 years. This is the first recording session
in almost 50 years at this studio and the studio was reopened
especially for this session.
This recording session, entitled: "That'll Be the Day -- The New Clovis Sessions," involved several of Buddy Holly's original bandmates. These musicians recorded with Buddy Holly at this historic studio back in the 50's. Many of these musicians were returning to this studio for the first time in over 50 years. It was a special reunion and a magic moment. The session produced great music and brought back good memories.
Holly's bandmates were joined at the session by some fantastic contemporary musicians, including John Mueller and his Winter Dance Party Band, and Daryl Davis -- keyboard player for Chuck Berry. All the musicians recorded well into the evening, and captured the excitement and sound of the early rock and roll that Holly recorded in the late 50's. They recorded several of Holly's early hits, and other songs from the era. This CD was recently released, I would appreciate your visiting the site and checking it out:
www.westtexasroots.com
Go ahead -- purchase a CD. A portion of the proceeds will go to the preservation of early rock and roll. We were very fortunate that the Petty Studio and the City of Clovis cooperated with us in this venture Thanks for checking it out, and I look forward to hearing from you. Scott Porter |
